OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT extension for the Google Chrome browser, introducing the ability to access and read content from active browser tabs. This integration allows the AI assistant to provide more contextual responses based on the information currently open in the user's browser.
Users can now ask ChatGPT to compare details across multiple tabs, such as product prices, dimensions, and shipping policies. For users of the ChatGPT Work tier, the extension supports more complex tasks, including filling out online forms, drafting messages, and organizing browser tabs based on specific requirements.
The update also enables full access to chat history directly from the Chrome sidebar. This feature allows users to continue ongoing conversations or manage tasks without needing to switch tabs or leave their current webpage. The extension is available for all subscription plans.
The updated functionality is compatible with various Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera. This release follows OpenAI's decision to discontinue its own standalone browser on August 9, shifting focus toward enhancing the capabilities of its browser extensions.
