Nvidia has acknowledged a bug in the GeForce Game Ready 621.01 driver released this week. Users report screen freezes and blackouts when playing video in browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, as well as in VLC media players.

The issue primarily affects owners of GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards. Reports indicate that the screen may go black or freeze for several seconds, particularly when launching a game while video is playing in the background.

Windows event logs show errors including Event ID 153 related to the nvlddmkm driver, along with LiveKernelEvent 141 and 117. Nvidia is currently collecting diagnostic data to investigate the root cause of these failures.

While a permanent fix is pending, Nvidia suggests rolling back to the previous driver version, 617.42, which was released on October 6. The company confirmed that this action resolves the reported instability issues.
