Nvidia has officially acknowledged a bug in the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver version 621.01. Users report that the screen may freeze or go black for several seconds while playing videos in browsers like Chrome and Edge, or in the VLC media player.
The issue often occurs during video playback, and in some instances, it is triggered when launching a game while a video is running in a browser. Nvidia is currently collecting crash dump files from affected users to investigate the root cause of the problem.
Reports of the glitch have come from owners of RTX 5080 and RTX 4090 graphics cards. Windows Event Viewer logs show errors related to nvlddmkm, as well as LiveKernelEvent 141 and 117, which typically indicate GPU timeouts and driver recovery failures.
According to user feedback on forums, the issue can be resolved by rolling back the driver to version 617.42, which was released on October 6. Nvidia has not yet provided a permanent fix or identified the specific cause of the driver malfunction.
