Developer Panchovix has released a new software tool called VBIOS Vix, which allows users to modify GeForce graphics card BIOS settings without performing a full firmware flash. The utility enables users to adjust power limits directly, bypassing standard restrictions typically enforced by the card's original BIOS.
The process involves saving the original BIOS, creating a modified copy, and loading it through the Nvidia driver. This method works for RTX 30, 40, and 50 series cards. For instance, the power limit for an RTX 5090 can be increased from 600 W to 800 W, while the RTX 5080 limit can be raised from 380 W to 500 W.
While the tool offers flexibility for overclocking or reducing power consumption, the developer warns that improper use carries a significant risk of damaging the hardware. Users are advised to exercise caution when applying these modifications to their graphics cards.
