MTS has introduced a free feature designed to protect elderly subscribers from phone fraud by notifying their relatives about suspicious incoming calls. The system sends an SMS or push notification to a designated family member if it detects potential scam activity during a conversation with an elderly user.
To activate the service, users must create a family group within the My MTS application and assign a family member the role of an elderly user. If the MTS Defender service identifies a suspicious call, the group organizer receives an alert containing details about the time and the recipient of the call.
Data from January to August 2026 shows that the MTS Defender service blocked approximately 8 million unwanted calls in the Astrakhan region, with over 230,000 of these targeting subscribers aged 65 and older. Across Russia, the service blocked more than 85 million unwanted calls for elderly users during the same period.
According to Andrey Kozharin, director of MTS in the Astrakhan region, the feature aims to involve family members in the security process. This approach helps prevent financial losses or the disclosure of personal data by allowing relatives to intervene before a conversation with scammers escalates.
