MTS has launched 5G network access in Tula, Russia, utilizing existing 2100 MHz LTE frequencies. The deployment follows the principle of technological neutrality, allowing the operator to share frequency resources between 4G and 5G networks without building a separate infrastructure.
The 5G coverage currently spans several key locations in Tula, including the Tula Kremlin, the Museum of Samovars, and the Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University. Connectivity is also available near the Moscow railway station, major shopping centers like Gostiny Dvor, and critical healthcare facilities such as the regional clinical hospital.
According to MTS regional director Artemy Kashnikov, the network expansion aims to support industrial digitalization, including IoT, robotics, and machine vision. Regional authorities, represented by Digital Development Minister Vitaly Prokudin, noted that the infrastructure upgrade will facilitate smart city projects and telemedicine services.
