Tech creator Marcus Brownlee, known as MKBHD, challenged Elon Musk’s timeline for the Tesla Cybercab. Brownlee bet that Tesla would not sell the vehicle to customers for under $30,000 before 2027. He pledged to shave his head on camera if the company succeeds in meeting this goal.

Tesla first unveiled the Cybercab, along with the Robovan and Optimus, during the We, Robot event in October 2024. The vehicle is designed without a steering wheel or pedals. The company projects a range of approximately 300 miles and plans to utilize large castings to reduce manufacturing costs.

In February, the first Cybercab unit reportedly came off the production line in Texas. While a September 3 event sparked concerns for Brownlee, it focused on integrating the Cybercab into the existing Tesla Robotaxi network within geofenced areas rather than initiating consumer sales.

Despite his skepticism regarding the specific timeline, Brownlee acknowledged Tesla’s role in driving industry change. He anticipates that autonomous vehicles will reach mainstream adoption within the next decade. Regardless of the bet's outcome, he intends to donate to Cancer Research in January.
