Microsoft is testing a new Xbox mode in the Windows 11 Build 26340.9750 preview version. This update introduces a bottom navigation bar within the Game Task View, enabling users to return to the Windows desktop using only a game controller.
Previously, switching from Xbox mode to the desktop required a keyboard combination of the Windows key and Tab. This dependency on external hardware was particularly inconvenient for users operating PCs connected to televisions or handheld gaming devices.
The updated interface displays open applications as large cards, allowing navigation via the LB and RB controller buttons. The new bottom bar also includes dedicated buttons for exiting to the desktop and accessing power options, such as locking, signing out, shutting down, or restarting the system.
