Microsoft launched a unified Copilot application on September 25, 2026, featuring three core sections: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The platform integrates chat, developer tools, and Office editing capabilities, which CEO Satya Nadella describes as an operating system for work.
The pricing model combines a monthly subscription of approximately $30 per user for standard tasks with usage-based billing for complex operations. Microsoft offers volume discounts of 30% for organizations purchasing over 1,000 seats and 50% for those exceeding 10,000 seats.
The company aims to increase adoption among its 450 million Microsoft 365 commercial users, where current paid penetration stands at about 7%. To manage costs and support these discounts, Microsoft is shifting workloads to its own in-house MAI models to reduce reliance on external providers.
For investors, the strategy relies on two main factors: increasing the paid seat count across the existing user base and improving margins by utilizing proprietary AI models. The company also provides FinOps tools to help enterprise clients monitor and control their AI expenditures.
