Microsoft is discontinuing Copilot support for smart TVs, ending a feature that was introduced nearly two years ago. The decision affects devices from LG and Samsung, which previously integrated the AI assistant into their platforms.

The change was revealed through on-screen notifications on LG webOS TVs. While the exact date remains unconfirmed, Microsoft has scheduled the full termination of the service for 2026, noting that the final timeline depends on internal decisions.

Previously, LG faced user criticism in December after an automatic update added a permanent Copilot shortcut to its interface. The company later allowed users to remove the icon following widespread complaints about the forced integration.

Copilot on these TVs functioned as an AI companion for chat, screen-related queries, and content recommendations. Microsoft is now shifting its strategy, focusing on a new super app that prioritizes business and productivity tools over consumer-facing digital assistants.
