Microsoft has acknowledged that the Windows 11 update interface can be misleading for users. The current design displays a prominent Restart now button even while monthly security updates are still in the process of being installed.
The issue was highlighted by Microsoft MVP Nathan McNulty. He demonstrated that while a security update was only 2% installed, the system already prompted a restart for other pending updates. Clicking the button prematurely forces the user to wait for the remaining installation or potentially undergo multiple restarts.
Aria Hanson, the principal product manager for Windows management, confirmed that the company is working on interface adjustments. The goal is to accommodate both users who prefer an immediate restart and those who want to wait until all background processes are fully completed.
Microsoft has committed to changing the notification system. Future updates will ensure that restart prompts are not displayed until all pending installations have finished their background tasks.
