Microsoft has initiated a voluntary buyout program targeting approximately 60,000 employees. This strategic move aims to reduce operational costs and realign the company workforce to focus on artificial intelligence initiatives.

The offer is available to staff at the vice president level and below across teams in the United States, Canada, India, and the United Kingdom. However, personnel in specific departments, including data centers, sales, and marketing, are not eligible for the program.

Chief People Officer Amy Coleman communicated the details to staff on Monday. Employees who accept the voluntary exit will receive benefits comparable to standard severance packages provided by the company.

This initiative follows a previous buyout offer extended earlier this year to retirement-age staff. In that instance, more than 30% of the approximately 8,750 eligible workers chose to accept the terms.
