Microsoft has updated its Copilot platform, integrating chat, application development tools, and autonomous AI agents into a single interface. The service now operates across three primary modes: Home, Code, and Autopilot.

The Home mode combines Copilot Chat with Cowork, while the Code mode utilizes GitHub Copilot technology to enable users to build applications, trackers, and dashboards via natural language prompts. These applications can be deployed within an organization's infrastructure.

Autopilot is designed for long-term, asynchronous tasks where AI agents operate in the background. These agents possess their own identity, memory, and workspace, allowing them to monitor Teams channels and execute recurring processes without requiring constant user input.

The company is transitioning to a usage-based billing model for Cowork, Code, and Autopilot. In addition to a base Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, users pay for agent tasks using Copilot Credits, with one credit priced at $0.01.

Administrators can manage these costs through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, which tracks credit consumption by user and service. Home and Code modes will be available via the Frontier early access program in the coming weeks, followed by a closed preview of Autopilot.
