Meta showcased new hardware prototypes at its annual Connect event, focusing on audio-only smart glasses. The company introduced a model without cameras, featuring six microphones and integration with the Muse agentic system for voice-controlled tasks like sending emails or answering queries.
The company also unveiled smart glasses designed for individuals with hearing loss. Developed over five years, the device offers focused and omnidirectional sound amplification. Meta positions this product as a cost-effective alternative to traditional hearing aids, with a retail price of $150 compared to the $1,600 often seen in the market.
The new audio-only glasses aim to address privacy concerns associated with camera-equipped wearables. While the Muse integration allows for hands-free digital assistance, the system currently requires direct verbal commands to function effectively without confusion.
