Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius confirmed that the compact version of the G-Class will arrive sooner than expected, with a market launch scheduled within the next 24 months. The company first announced the development of the model in 2023 and released an official teaser in 2025.

The vehicle is expected to debut in 2027, with a final release deadline set for the end of 2028. While initially intended as an all-electric model, Mercedes-Benz has adjusted its strategy to include a hybrid variant due to feedback from US dealers and shifting market conditions.

The compact G-Class will feature a dedicated ladder-frame chassis to maintain off-road capabilities, rather than using existing modular platforms. The electric version will likely feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and an 85kWh lithium-ion battery, while the hybrid will use a 1.5L electrified engine.

Design-wise, the model will retain the classic boxy aesthetic, straight body lines, and round LED headlights characteristic of the G-Class. It will be positioned within the company's compact lineup, with dimensions comparable to the GLA, GLB, and CLA models.
