MegaFon has officially launched its 5G network in Kazan, focusing on the city's business districts and historic center. The coverage area includes key tourist spots such as the Kazan Kremlin, Millennium Square, and the Kremlin Embankment.
The network also extends to the Palace of Sports, the central department store, and several major streets, including Baumana, Kremlevskaya, and Profsoyuznaya. The deployment utilizes the operator's existing LTE infrastructure through frequency modernization.
Users can access the 5G service automatically on current tariff plans without needing to replace SIM cards, provided their devices support the technology. The infrastructure aims to support smart city initiatives, including autonomous transport and urban analytics.
According to Albert Yakovlev, First Deputy Minister of Digital Development of Tatarstan, the region leads the Volga Federal District in mobile internet usage. The rollout aligns with the State Commission for Radio Frequencies mandate to deploy 5G in major cities by 2028.
