McKinsey & Company currently operates with a combined workforce of approximately 60,000, consisting of 40,000 human employees and between 20,000 and 25,000 AI agents. This marks a significant increase from the few thousand agents the firm utilized 18 months ago.

The company aims to pair every human staff member with at least one AI agent within the next 18 months. Last year, these digital agents reportedly saved 1.5 million hours on routine tasks such as search and synthesis. The firm notes that client-facing roles have grown by 25%, while back-office positions have decreased by a similar margin.

AI-related projects now account for roughly 40% of the firm's total business. The company's dedicated AI division, QuantumBlack, employs 1,700 professionals to lead these initiatives. Additionally, McKinsey is transitioning its business model from traditional fee-for-service arrangements toward outcomes-based engagements.
