Janus Electric has signed a battery supply agreement with Electrovaya to support its Class 8 electric truck conversions. The deal includes an initial purchase order for battery packs valued at $26 million to meet demand in the US and Canada.

As part of the strategic partnership, Electrovaya will invest $1.4 million in Janus Electric stock. This collaboration aims to secure a reliable supply chain for the conversion company as it scales its operations in North America.

The Janus Electric conversion process replaces diesel engines with a 480 hp electric motor and 310 kWh battery packs. Trucks can be equipped with two packs, providing a loaded range of up to 370 miles, with battery swaps taking approximately four minutes.

Janus Electric reported over 70 reservations as of last summer. Customers can utilize incentives like the California HVIP program and the US EPA DERA grants, which, combined with local support, can provide up to $166,000 in savings per truck conversion.

Electrovaya plans to expand its manufacturing capacity with a new facility in Jamestown, New York. The plant is expected to begin production of lithium-ion cells, modules, and battery packs in 2027.
