Laplace Intelligence, a startup based in Ann Arbor, provides automated red-teaming services for robotics and physical AI systems. The company uses high-fidelity simulations to stress-test autonomous vehicles and robots before they are deployed in real-world environments.
The platform utilizes Nvidia’s Cosmos for world simulation, integrating real-world map data and traffic information from providers like TomTom. AI agents within the system actively design and execute corner cases to challenge the safety of physical AI, reducing the need for human intervention in the testing process.
Founded a year ago by CEO Howie Sun and chief scientist Henry Liu, the startup emerged from research conducted at the University of Michigan. The founders previously published a study on autonomous driving simulation in the journal Nature in 2023.
The company is currently generating revenue and reports a modest profit. Its client base includes the autonomous trucking firm Bot Auto and a major Japanese automotive manufacturer. Additionally, Laplace is collaborating with Nvidia and T-Mobile on a smart city pilot in San Jose, California.
Laplace is participating in the Startup Battlefield 200 competition at TechCrunch Disrupt. The company aims to raise funds and scale its operations to compete with established players in the sector, such as Applied Intuition.
