Tolan, an AI companion app designed to assist users with daily tasks, relationship management, and emotional support, has secured $30 million in a new funding round. The investment was led by Union Square Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and Homebrew. This capital injection doubles the total funding raised by the company to date.

According to reports, the startup's valuation has surpassed its previous mark of $120 million. While the company did not officially disclose its current valuation, data from PitchBook estimates it to be over $268 million. The platform generates revenue through tiered membership subscriptions, with annual recurring revenue currently reaching double-digit millions in USD.

The application currently reports more than 250,000 active users who have engaged in over 70 million conversations during the past year. Demographic data indicates that approximately 70% of the user base consists of women, while 40% are parents. Users interact with the service through a cartoonish character interface.

The company operates in a competitive landscape alongside other AI agents, such as Meta’s Muse, which also utilizes a character-based interface and plans for future hardware integration. Tolan continues to navigate the sector while managing the operational risks associated with providing AI-powered emotional support services.
