Klarna has launched a new verification tool designed to help users identify legitimate calls from the company. The feature is now available across all 26 markets where the fintech firm operates.
To verify a caller, users open the Klarna app during a conversation. A green banner at the top of the screen confirms the call is authentic, while an amber banner indicates the caller cannot be verified, signaling the user to hang up.
The company first introduced this Call Status Detection feature in the Nordic region in September. According to Klarna, the tool has already assisted thousands of users in identifying potential fraud.
This initiative follows the release of Klarna Inbox, a tool for verifying written communications like emails and text messages. The company aims to address the rising threat of fraudsters impersonating financial institutions.
Data from Nasdaq Verafin indicates that scammers stole approximately $579 billion through fraud last year. Industry experts note that artificial intelligence is increasingly used to bypass traditional authentication methods like voice recognition.
