LG Energy Solution has opened applications for its tenth annual Battery Innovation Contest. Universities and research institutions globally can submit proposals through the company's BRIDGE platform until December 6, 2026. The competition focuses on battery materials, management systems, and artificial intelligence.

The contest features two tracks: a Thematic Call for topics defined by LG's development departments and an Open-Topic Call for independent research. A two-stage submission process, starting with a project outline, is designed to protect intellectual property before full proposals are requested.

Since its inception in 2017, the initiative has supported approximately 50 projects. Selected research may receive further backing through the Frontier Research Laboratory, which offers additional funding and technical resources. Past successes include a physics-based model for battery management and solid-state battery research.

Beyond the competition, LG Energy Solution is reportedly preparing to supply 46100 cylindrical cells for Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles. While unconfirmed, reports suggest production preparations could begin in 2027, with potential deliveries starting in 2028.
