IonQ has entered into a contract with QuantumCT, a statewide initiative in Connecticut, to provide cloud access to its trapped-ion quantum computers. The agreement grants users more than 150 hours of runtime on the company's commercial-grade hardware.
The resources are intended for a diverse group of regional participants, including the University of Connecticut, Yale University, as well as various local startups and research labs. The deal includes technical support provided by IonQ to assist these institutions in their projects.
This partnership follows a $15 million grant awarded to QuantumCT by the National Science Foundation in July 2026. The current contract represents a shift toward utilizing these funds to secure tangible research resources for the regional ecosystem.
For IonQ, which is listed on the NYSE under the ticker IONQ, this agreement serves as another instance of its cloud-based business model. The company focuses on selling time on its quantum machines rather than the hardware itself.
