Hyundai Motor Group is intentionally delaying the deployment of its autonomous driving system, Atria AI, to prioritize data collection and machine learning. The company aims to surpass Tesla's Full Self-Driving capabilities within five years by focusing on a more deliberate development pace.

Park Min-woo, head of Hyundai's advanced vehicle platform division and CEO of the subsidiary 42dot, stated that rushing to mass production would result in a mid-tier 2++ system. The company believes this strategy will prevent the release of technology that fails to meet its long-term performance goals.

The Atria AI platform relies on a data flywheel concept where accumulated driving data is used to retrain the system and correct errors. Currently, Hyundai operates a fleet of 40 specialized vehicles around the clock to gather information for its driving database.
