The startup HUMXN is launching a program to collect training data for AI robots by offering free home repair services. The company provides plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, air duct cleaning, and carpet cleaning to residents in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Miami.
Technicians performing these tasks wear sensors that record video of their work. According to founder Thomas Unise, this approach allows AI systems to learn from complex physical interactions that are difficult to replicate in a laboratory environment.
The initiative aims to capture data across diverse homes, equipment types, and environmental conditions. HUMXN covers the cost of the services, effectively paying homeowners for the right to record the repair processes on their premises.
This data collection method is designed to help AI models understand how professionals assess situations, select tools, and adapt to changing conditions. The company intends to connect this real-world expertise with developers building intelligent machines.
