Anthropic is currently consulting with law firms to establish ethical and operational guidelines for AI agents designed to conduct negotiations on behalf of users. The company aims to define how these systems should handle tasks like price bargaining, dispute resolution, and salary discussions while maintaining fairness.
The project focuses on developing interaction standards for AI agents that may encounter conflicting interests from other automated systems. Anthropic is evaluating the necessary level of human oversight required during these negotiations and how to balance strategic behavior with the risk of excessive suspicion or irrational decision-making by the models.
One proposed solution involves requiring users to sign formal documents that explicitly authorize the AI to act on their behalf and outline the specific rules the agent must follow. This framework is intended to clarify the scope of the agent's authority and ensure compliance with user-defined boundaries.
In parallel, Anthropic has reported significant shifts in its internal workforce structure over the past year. The company is reducing its reliance on entry-level positions, with the share of junior employees in the technical department falling from 21% to 14% since the beginning of 2025.
The reduction in entry-level hiring is even more pronounced within new technical roles. According to the company's recent report, the proportion of new hires in junior technical positions dropped from 27% to 9%, reflecting a broader change in the firm's operational and staffing strategy.
