The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has launched the Embodied AI International Applications Hub in Kowloon Tong. This facility serves as a testing ground for companies to evaluate robots in simulated real-world environments, facilitating their preparation for international markets.
Seven organizations from mainland China and Hong Kong are currently participating in the project, including robotics manufacturers Unitree Robotics and Galbot. The hub operates as part of the broader HKPC industrial AI and robotics center.
According to HKPC chairman Sunny Tan, the facility allows Chinese manufacturers to train robots for global deployment without leaving the region. The initiative is supported by the Hong Kong government as part of its broader strategy to advance embodied AI and robotics.
Embodied AI technology enables systems to interact with the physical world through hardware, moving beyond traditional chatbot capabilities. Industry data indicates that in the first half of the year, global shipments of humanoid robots reached approximately 19,100 units, with Chinese firms accounting for 97% of that total.
