Huawei Supervisory Board Chairman Guo Ping recently outlined the company's strategic focus on AI during a meeting with new employees. He identified AI as a primary growth opportunity, emphasizing that Huawei aims to become the equivalent of Nvidia in the ICT and computing sectors. The company intends to support clients in building large models by ensuring they run efficiently on Huawei Ascend, Kunpeng, and super-node cluster architectures.

The company's core strategy remains focused on connectivity and computing, with no plans for business expansion. Guo Ping noted that Huawei is prioritizing the integration of AI into traditional operations, such as automated network maintenance for telecom operators. This shift requires a new focus on applied AI talent to manage complex network elements and reduce operational costs effectively.

Huawei is adopting a tiered approach to large models. While the company focuses on supporting third-party models in ICT, it is developing proprietary models for its cloud, terminal, and intelligent driving divisions. Guo Ping highlighted that cloud services and AI are deeply intertwined, necessitating competitive in-house solutions to maintain market relevance in these specific segments.

To address constraints in advanced manufacturing processes, Huawei is promoting the integration of design and production. Guo Ping referenced the Tao Law, which emphasizes using time-based optimization to compensate for geometric scaling limitations. The company is also leveraging architectural innovation in its Ascend 950 series to improve performance and user experience through cluster-based computing.

Guo Ping identified computing power, data, and talent as the three pillars of AI competitiveness. While acknowledging that China faces challenges in raw computing power, he noted that the country holds advantages in data application and industrial scenarios. Huawei plans to align its organizational processes and talent development to secure a leading position in the AI-driven technological revolution.
