Hong Kong lawmakers have officially approved legislation to adopt the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework developed by the OECD. This new legal requirement mandates that providers of crypto assets must begin gathering transaction data for tax reporting purposes starting in 2027.
The primary objective of this framework is to enhance financial transparency through the mandatory annual exchange of data with international partner jurisdictions. These automated data sharing processes are scheduled to commence in 2028, aligning the region with global tax compliance standards.
The introduction of these reporting rules marks a significant shift in the local regulatory landscape. Market participants are now monitoring how service providers will adjust their operations to meet these compliance obligations and how the changes will influence broader investor sentiment.
