South Korean Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok has proposed prioritizing the Digital Asset Basic Act over the implementation of a crypto tax. If approved, this would represent the fourth delay for the tax, which was originally slated to begin in January 2027.
The proposed tax framework includes a 22% levy on virtual asset gains that exceed ₩2.5 million. Market participants are monitoring these legislative discussions, as the potential delay is viewed as a move toward a more comprehensive regulatory environment for digital assets.
Prediction markets have responded to the news with cautious optimism regarding Bitcoin. Current data indicates a 10% probability that Bitcoin will reach $100,000 by December 31, 2026. However, analysts note that the proposal originated from a Tier 3 social media account, suggesting that the market is awaiting official confirmation.
