Honda has announced the global launch of its new Honda Hybrid system, scheduled to begin in 2027. The company plans to integrate this technology into approximately 15 vehicle models across North America, Japan, and India by the fiscal year ending in March 2030.
The new system is an evolution of the existing e:HEV two-motor setup, which has been in use since 2019. Engineers have expanded the engine's efficient operating range and reduced the size of the drive unit. This initiative aims to unify the company's hybrid branding, replacing previous systems like Integrated Motor Assist and Sport Hybrid.
Vehicles equipped with the new system will utilize a redesigned platform featuring increased body rigidity and reduced weight. The updated structure is intended to improve ride comfort and handling stability. Additionally, the platform supports a new electric all-wheel-drive system alongside standard front-wheel-drive configurations.
The technology includes a Motion Management System for integrated vehicle control. A prototype of the next-generation Civic Hybrid, featuring a 2.0-liter engine paired with two electric motors, serves as a template for future sedan and SUV applications. Honda has not yet disclosed specific power ratings for the e-AWD hardware.
