Honda is reportedly preparing to launch a new Civic Type R HRC variant in 2027. The model will be based on the facelifted FL5 Civic Type R, which the company is expected to reveal before the end of this year. The HRC badge, representing Honda Racing Corporation, indicates the integration of competition-grade components derived from the brand's motorsport programs, including Formula 1 and MotoGP.
The development of the HRC model focuses on balanced performance improvements rather than specific track records. The concept vehicle, previously showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon, serves as a test platform for aerodynamic, cooling, and engine enhancements. Potential mechanical upgrades include reworked suspension, larger brakes, forged wheels, and increased use of carbon fiber.
Reports suggest the vehicle could see a weight reduction of approximately 50 pounds compared to the standard model. The engine output is rumored to increase to roughly 335 horsepower, achieved through software adjustments and modifications to the intake and exhaust systems. The car features an Akrapovic exhaust, a larger front intake, and an extended lip spoiler.
The projected price for the HRC variant in Japan is around ¥7 million. This represents a premium of approximately $5,000 over the standard local-market Civic Type R, which is priced at about ¥6.18 million. Honda has not yet officially confirmed any specifications, production timelines, or technical details for the upcoming road-legal track car.
