Honda is reportedly in final-stage discussions regarding the construction of a dedicated hybrid vehicle manufacturing facility in Ohio. According to Nikkei Asia, the project could involve an investment ranging from $1,9 billion to $2,53 billion. The automaker has not established a new assembly plant in the United States for approximately 20 years.
The proposed timeline suggests that construction could commence in 2027, with production operations potentially starting in 2030. The facility is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 250 000 vehicles. The plant would focus on manufacturing large Honda and Acura SUVs, shifting production of these models to in-house facilities.
Despite these reports, a spokesperson for American Honda stated that no final decision has been reached regarding a new plant in the United States. The company traditionally prefers expanding output through existing facilities and flexible production lines. Current negotiations reportedly involve discussions over state subsidies, which remain unresolved.
