Great Wall Motor has transported its hybrid NASCAR-style prototype, known as the Covenant, near its headquarters in Baoding. The vehicle was spotted on November 7 ahead of the company’s Car Carnival event. The car, which features a magenta-and-gold design, was previously displayed at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026.
The prototype currently utilizes a longitudinal V6 plug-in hybrid powertrain. GWM has stated that the system is intended to transition to a V8-based hybrid setup in the future. The vehicle includes racing-specific features such as a front splitter, a rear swan-neck wing, and a large diffuser.
On November 4, GWM posted a job opening for a NASCAR expert, identified by code 49231. The role involves technical strategy for NASCAR and IndyCar, including work on the Gen7 chassis and a 5.86-litre V8 engine. The position also covers aerodynamic development, vehicle dynamics, and powertrain calibration.
The company is simultaneously developing a separate high-performance GF program, which includes a mid-engine supercar and plans for a GT3 racing car. The supercar project is led by former McLaren engineer Adam Thomson and is expected to feature a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged hybrid V8 engine.
GWM has not confirmed any official plans for competition in the NASCAR Cup Series or IndyCar, nor has it announced partnerships with North American racing teams. The current activities focus on engineering research and development across various high-performance automotive platforms.
