Gradient, an AI-native accounting firm for US startups, has secured $4 million in pre-seed funding. The investment round was led by VentureFriends, Acadian Ventures, TinyVC, Heartfelt, and Kima Ventures.

Founded in 2026, the company currently employs a team of 7 people. It aims to reach $100 million in annual revenue within a few years by providing full-service accounting rather than just software.

The firm utilizes AI for internal operations, while licensed CPAs handle client communication and sign off on tax returns. Gradient offers fixed monthly pricing and promises same-day book closing.

The company has already reconciled over $40 million for clients backed by firms such as a16z and Y Combinator. The new capital will be used to improve internal technology and expand service offerings.

The broader market for tax technology is projected to grow from $20.78 billion in 2025 to $60.66 billion by 2034, amid a 20-year low in US accounting graduates.
