Google is testing a new security feature within Google Wallet version 26.43.1009867093. The update introduces a setting that allows users to mandate identity verification before every individual contactless transaction.

Currently, the application permits multiple payments after a single verification performed within a recent timeframe. The proposed change aims to provide users with granular control over their authentication preferences during checkout.

The findings originate from an analysis of work-in-progress code. It remains uncertain whether this specific functionality will reach a public release or how it will ultimately alter the user experience.

Data from PYMNTS Intelligence indicates that the adoption of digital wallets for in-store transactions rose from 11% in 2022 to 21% in 2025, driven by the convenience of tap-to-pay technology.

Separately, Google continues to expand its payment ecosystem. In August, the company announced that Walmart and Sam’s Club began integrating Google Pay, with full rollout across all U.S. stores planned by late 2026.
