Google announced at the Android Developer Summit that it will release a Quick Share SDK in the first half of 2027. This tool aims to simplify file transfers between Android and iOS devices by allowing third-party applications to integrate sharing capabilities directly into their interfaces.
The SDK eliminates the need for users to navigate through full-screen system menus. Instead, apps will display a bottom sheet with file previews. Developers can implement this feature with approximately 20 lines of code, which includes initializing the client, attaching files, and launching the UI.
The system supports end-to-end encryption and utilizes Wi-Fi Direct for high-speed, low-latency transfers. It handles hotspot creation automatically, enabling offline sharing of photos and videos without compression, even in areas without cellular connectivity.
Google confirmed that the SDK will be available for both Android and iOS applications. While the technical framework is set for 2027, the availability of this feature for end users depends on the timeline of the SDK release and the subsequent adoption by individual app developers.
