Google has removed the paywall for its AI video generation tool within the Google Vids browser-based editor. As of September 23, users with a Google account can generate 1080p videos at no cost using the Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. The platform accepts text prompts, photos, audio, and existing clips as source material.
The updated tool includes new editing features such as scene extension, which maintains consistency in lighting and characters, and precise duration controls to align clips with scripts. Users can also upscale existing low-resolution AI clips to 1080p. All generated content includes a SynthID watermark, which is machine-readable for verification.
The company is also adjusting its pricing strategy for developers. The API rate for the Veo 3.1 Lite model has been reduced to $0.05 per second. This move coincides with the shutdown of OpenAI's Sora consumer app and developer API. Google plans to introduce Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite text-to-speech to support narration in over 100 languages.
