Users of Google Home speakers have reported a technical issue causing devices to download hundreds of gigabytes of data in the background. Reports from Reddit and 9to5Google indicate that some units are consuming over 200GB of traffic per day due to failed firmware update attempts.

The problem primarily affects the new Google Home Speaker model, though the total number of impacted devices remains unclear. While some users face massive data consumption, other units show normal activity, such as 2GB of usage over the same monthly period.

Google has acknowledged the bug and confirmed that a fix is currently being deployed to resolve the issue. The company is working to address the situation for affected owners, who may otherwise face significant costs if they have limited data plans.
