TP-Link has signed a letter of intent with the US-based manufacturer Key Tronic Corporation to assemble Wi-Fi 8 routers domestically. The production is scheduled to begin as early as next year at a facility located in Mississippi.
Key Tronic, which originally specialized in keyboard manufacturing, has since expanded its operations into contract electronics manufacturing. This partnership aims to support broader initiatives for bringing technology manufacturing back to the United States.
Despite the move to local assembly, TP-Link will continue to source components from overseas suppliers. Company representative Steve Coffsky noted that this challenge is common for firms attempting to relocate manufacturing to the US.
It remains uncertain whether this domestic assembly strategy will assist TP-Link in navigating current FCC router restrictions. The company intends to encourage other industry players to establish production facilities within the United States.
