GMO Internet Group and ambulance manufacturer Sansei have announced a strategic partnership to develop humanoid robots specifically for emergency medical services. The project aims to address labor shortages and resource constraints in Japan's aging society by integrating AI and automation into ambulance operations.
The robots are designed to assist paramedics with physically demanding tasks, such as transporting patients through narrow corridors or staircases. They will feature flexible joints and high load-bearing capacity to reduce the physical strain on emergency personnel during rescue missions.
Equipped with GMO's high-precision sensors and AI, the robots will monitor patient vital signs in real time. They are also intended to assist with procedures like CPR and hemorrhage control, while simultaneously transmitting patient data to hospitals to improve clinical response times.
Sansei is currently optimizing the robot's structure and mounting systems to fit within the confined, vibrating environment of an ambulance. The engineering team is focused on ensuring the hardware remains stable during transit without obstructing medical staff or compromising safety.
