General Motors is transforming its OnStar platform into an AI-driven digital assistant designed to manage vehicle functions and provide technical support. The system allows drivers to use natural language to query vehicle information, adjust climate settings, operate the glove box, or open the EV charge port.

The AI assistant will debut on the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq via an over-the-air software update in the coming months. Following the initial launch, the company plans to expand the feature to other models across the Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC lineups.

For electric vehicle owners, the assistant provides specific support by calculating range for destinations and planning necessary charging stops. If the AI cannot resolve a query, the system is designed to connect the driver directly with a human OnStar Advisor.

Additionally, General Motors will release a unified OnStar smartphone app in 2027. This application will consolidate existing brand-specific apps and the OnStar Guardian app, offering centralized control over connected-camera features and user privacy settings.
