General Motors reported a 6% decline in total US vehicle sales for the third quarter of 2026, totaling 670,974 units. The company attributed the downturn to a shrinking electric vehicle market and the discontinuation of certain models.
Sales of the Chevy Equinox EV dropped by 92% in Q3, with 1,905 units sold compared to over 25,000 in the same period of 2025. Over the first nine months of 2026, the model saw 18,154 sales, a 65% decrease year-over-year.
Other models also faced significant declines: Chevy Blazer EV sales fell 84% to 5,199, while Silverado EV sales dropped 58% to 1,655. Cadillac electric SUVs, including the Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ, accounted for nearly half of GM's total EV sales in Q3.
GM plans to reduce production of the new Chevy Bolt by approximately 75% following the removal of the $7,500 federal tax credit. The company now intends to manufacture about 35,000 units before ending production in the first quarter of 2027.
