GitHub has unveiled a new Git storage architecture, codenamed Rubicon, designed to handle high-concurrency workloads. The system supports horizontal scaling for read operations and maintains low latency under heavy load.
Internal stress tests demonstrate that the architecture can manage 5,000 AI agents collaborating within a single repository. Furthermore, the system is capable of processing up to 7,200 code pushes per second.
The platform is currently conducting a limited private preview of the new architecture. GitHub plans to gradually expand access to the system starting early next year.
The development of Rubicon is driven by the increasing activity of AI agents, which are expected to create continuous high-throughput loads. GitHub notes that traffic on its busiest repositories has grown by approximately 4 times between March and May.
