According to the latest report from the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), over 85% of Japanese game developers now utilize generative AI in their workflows. This figure marks a significant increase from 51% reported in 2025, representing a 34 percentage point growth over the year.
The survey results indicate that 63% of respondents integrate AI tools into their daily operations, while 22% use them periodically. Major industry players, including Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, Konami, Bandai Namco, and SNK, participated in the study conducted by the association.
Developers primarily leverage generative AI to enhance productivity, shorten development cycles, and reduce operational costs. Common applications include the generation of images and text, as well as assistance with programming tasks. CESA executive director Tsutomu Masuda noted the widespread adoption of these tools.
The report also highlights that the trend is not limited to Japan. Approximately 90% of large gaming studios in Europe are currently using AI tools in their development processes, though many companies remain reluctant to disclose this information publicly due to concerns regarding potential negative reactions from gamers.
