The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) released a preview of its Game Industry Report 2026 on September 17. The data, presented at Tokyo Game Show 2026, indicates that 85.8% of Japanese game developers currently utilize generative AI in their professional workflows.
According to findings from Automaton West, 63% of these developers integrate AI tools into their daily tasks, while an additional 22.8% use them on an occasional basis. Companies primarily adopt these technologies to enhance operational efficiency and boost overall productivity.
The industry is implementing stricter oversight protocols regarding AI usage. Common measures include mandatory human review and correction, as well as corporate policies that restrict specific tools or prohibit the use of raw, unedited AI-generated content in final products.
The report highlights three distinct stages of AI adoption: initial experimentation, integration into production pipelines, and direct implementation of generated results. The full version of the CESA report is scheduled for publication in early December.
