General Motors is upgrading its OnStar connected vehicle service by integrating an AI assistant. This new tool allows drivers to query vehicle information, control car functions via voice commands, and troubleshoot technical issues without consulting a manual.
The AI assistant will debut in the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq via an OTA update in the coming months, with plans to expand to other Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models. The system can adjust climate settings, operate interior lights, open electronic glove boxes, and manage charging port covers.
For electric vehicle owners, the assistant provides route planning and charging station stops based on remaining range. If the AI cannot resolve a query, users retain the option to connect with a human OnStar advisor for further assistance.
In 2027, General Motors will launch a unified OnStar mobile application to replace existing brand-specific apps and the OnStar Guardian service. The new platform will feature connected camera support and granular privacy controls for managing data access.
