The 2027 North American Truck of the Year (NACTOY) competition features four contenders: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Ram 1500 TRX SRT, and the Slate Truck. These models were selected from an initial pool of 56 eligible vehicles. Jurors are scheduled to evaluate the candidates during a comparison event this October.
Ford is absent from the 2027 truck field, marking the first time in six years the company will not secure the award. According to NACTOY rules, vehicles must be new or substantially changed to qualify. The current Ford F-150 generation launched in 2021, and production of the F-150 Lightning was halted in December 2025.
The competition highlights a wide range of vehicles. The Slate electric pickup, which is currently in the pre-production phase, starts at $24,950. In contrast, the Ram 1500 TRX SRT, equipped with a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine producing 777 horsepower, is priced at approximately $103,000.
While NACTOY has identified 25 vehicles across all categories for the 2027 awards, a final list of finalists and a detailed schedule have not yet been released. The organization has noted that some contenders might not be drivable during the October event due to limited availability.
