Expanse, a startup operating in the US and UK, has secured €4.5 million in a seed funding round. The investment was led by Crane Venture Partners, with participation from PXN Ventures, AIP Seed, and several angel investors, including former DeepMind researchers.
Founded in 2025 by four University of Edinburgh graduates, the company develops software designed to predict AI workload requirements before execution. This approach aims to reduce resource over-allocation and prevent failed jobs by optimizing existing GPU infrastructure.
The platform integrates directly into cloud or on-premises environments, analyzing workloads without requiring code or telemetry to leave the customer's infrastructure. In one production deployment, the software identified €6.9 million of idle compute capacity in a single month.
The company plans to utilize the new capital to expand its engineering team and accelerate product development. The platform targets sectors including AI infrastructure, quantitative finance, life sciences, and high-performance computing.
