Dutch chipmaker Euclyd BV secured over €200 million, or $230 million, in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Samsung Electronics, Somerset Capital Partners, and the Scaleup Europe Fund, with participation from imec.xpand. Peter Wennink, former CEO of ASML, has joined the company board.
The startup is developing an AI chip named craftwerk, which will be part of the CWS system designed for AI clusters with over an exaflop of performance. The hardware uses an ASIC-based computing module and a custom memory architecture focused on processor-memory co-design to address the memory wall challenge.
Euclyd plans to launch its silicon in 2028, targeting data center operators as primary customers. The company also intends to license its underlying technologies to other chip manufacturers. Euclyd aims to reach thousands of enterprise clients by 2030.
The partnership with Samsung, a major HBM supplier, may support Euclyd's engineering goals. The company emphasizes power efficiency in its design, aiming to reduce infrastructure constraints for advanced AI applications.
